Το ρόδι (1960)
Η μικρή
Δανάη είδε τη δασκάλα της στο μπαλκόνι.
Πότιζε τα ανθισμένα ζουμπούλια.
Σταμάτησε
και την κοίταξε.
Ήταν πιο
όμορφη απ’ ό,τι στο σχολείο.
Τα λυτά
ξανθιά μαλλιά της ανέμιζαν.
Ήθελε να της
μιλήσει, όμως δείλιαζε.
Ξάφνου ένας γυρολόγος
φάνηκε στο στενό.
Πωλούσε ρόδια και κρασί.
Η δασκάλα
κατέβηκε στην εξώπορτα.
Να αγοράσει
ένα ρόδι για την καινούρια χρονιά.
Να φέρει
καλοτυχία και να πάρει μακριά τις πίκρες.
Όμως να,
στην πόρτα ήταν μια επιστολή.
Την άνοιξε
γεμάτη αγωνία.
Η Δανάη είδε
τα μάτια της δασκάλας.
Έλαμπαν.
Ο καλός της
επέστρεφε απ’ τα ξένα.
Ένας νέος
χρόνος είχε μόλις αρχίσει.

Pomegranate (1960)
Little Danae saw her teacher on the
balcony.
She was watering the blooming hyacinth.
She stopped and looked at her.
She was more beautiful than at
school.
Her loose blond hair was waving.
She wanted to talk to her, but she
was flinching.
Suddenly a peddler appeared in the
street.
He sold pomegranates and wine.
The teacher went downstairs.
To buy a pomegranate for the new
year.
To bring good luck and take away
the bitterness.
But look, at the door there was a
letter.
She opened it full of anxiety.
Danae saw the teacher’s eyes.
They were shining.
Her beloved one was returning from
abroad.
A new year had just begun.
